Polar Bear Foundation Athletic Fund Initiative

The first major project of the Athletic Fund is to raise money for the construction of a new turf field. The Board of School Directors has approved the conceptual design of renovations to the existing Soccer/Field Hockey Stadium, located behind Northern High School. The renovations would include widening the field, relocating the light standards, and installing synthetic turf on the field. The Opinion of Probable Cost for this project is approximately $2 million. The Board has allocated existing money in the Capital Reserve Fund towards portions of this project. The Board is also committed to renovations of the field that need to occur whether turf is added or not. However, tax dollars are not enough. We need the voluntary financial support of our community to raise the necessary capital to successfully implement this project. Our goal is to raise $1.2 million through monetary donations, donations of services, donations of materials, and grant funding.
While committed members of the Polar Bear Foundation and the School Board have been working through a “quiet phase” of fund raising, we are now prepared to enter into a “public phase.” The public fund-raising campaign for the turf field project will begin on November 1, 2019 with goal of raising $1.2 million by April 1, 2020. Donors will have the option to make donations over a three-year period beginning upon final acceptance from the School Board of bids for the project.
Through this fund-raising campaign, we will ensure that Northern’s student-athletes compete on improved facilities that will benefit students and the community alike for years to come. We are excited that the Northern York County School District and the Polar Bear Foundation will, once again, collaborate for the best interest of the youth of our community.
